Two stream crossings were replaced with bridges to allow the federally endangered steelhead trout access to their premier habitat on Arroyo Sequit Creek. 40 species of native plants and highly efficient inline drip irrigation were installed in areas disturbed during construction activities to revegetate the site.

The front lawn was replaced with a California native plant rain garden that flowers throughout the year. The garden collects and filters Mother nature’s free rain water to feed and nourish the plants. The homeowner has realized a 90% reduction in irrigation water use and maintenance. The homeowner received a rebate from their water district for removing grass and a reduction on their property tax bill for allowing stormwater runoff to be absorbed into the ground.

The commercial rain garden at work during a rain event. Stormwater runoff slowly fills the rain garden allowing polluted water to be absorbed and filtered by the soil. The clean water stored in the soil is then used by the native plants for nutrients and water.

: This rain garden was designed to capture and purify polluted stormwater runoff from 12 acres of commercial property. The first inch of rain is absorbed into the ground to feed a variety of drought tolerant California native plants which require almost little to no future irrigation or maintenance.
